About the Author

Robert P. George holds Princeton's celebrated McCormick Chair in Jurisprudence and is the Director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions. He has served as chairman of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, and before that on the President’s Council on Bioethics and as a presidential appointee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights. He has also served as the U.S. member of UNESCO’s World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology. His many books include In Defense of Natural Law; Making Men Moral; Embryo: A Defense of Human Life; What is Marriage? Man and Woman: A Defense. A graduate of Swarthmore College, he holds J.D. and M.T.S. degrees from Harvard University and the degrees of D.Phil., B.C.L., and D.C.L. from Oxford University. R. J. Snell directs the Center on the University and Intellectual Life at the Witherspoon Institute in Princeton, NJ. Prior to this appointment he was for many years Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Philosophy Program at Eastern University and the Templeton Honors College, where he founded and directed the Agora Institute for Civic Virtue and the Common Good. A convert to Catholicism, he grew up Baptist and received his early education at the schools of Prairie Bible Institute and Liberty University. I just received Modern Manners today, and have spent over an hour perusing it. Although I admit I haven't read every word, I am very impressed with the book. The format is pleasing, interesting and makes for a quick reference for many situations. The book, co-authored by a renowned etiquette expert and her granddaughter, covers topics ranging from dress, posture, introductions, how to mingle, and even how to shake hands. These may seem to be very simplistic areas, until you find yourself in a situation and you don't know what to wear, how to introduce your boss to a friend, how to feel comfortable at a social/business function, or dining at a table where there's more silverware in front of you than in your momma's silver drawer! The book also gives relevant information about other cultures including greetings, dining information and conversation distances. All of this being very relevant as international travel and trade increases. Many of the suggestions in the book not only cover what is proper socially, but gives wonderful suggestions for those who want to make a positive impression in the business world. Manners may not ever go out of style, but they do evolve. Many of the rules from Emily Post and Amy Vanderbilt, even though perfect for their time, are outdated. Ladies, we may still want to be treated special by our husbands, boyfriends, and male friends, but being catered to by men in the business world is not going to help us get ahead. This book addresses this need and shows women how to step up and show ourselves as equals (standing when someone enters, offering our hands for a firm shake, etc.). Don't get the idea from the last comment that this book is just for females, it has beneficial information for all!I think this would be an excellent book for young men and women about to go to college or who are in college and will be entering the business world soon or those already in the business world.

This book is just PERFECT. I have bought many Etiquette books and this one is a must have: simple language but very effective, perfect topics, with cute illustrations what helps a lot and the paper is soft. It will be my Bible Manners/Etiquette book after buying and read SO many. Thank you Ms. Johnson and Tyler for this amazing book. PS: Well, Im a Amazon Shopper and after almost 5 years shopping heavy here it is be my FIRST review here, it means how much I LOVED this book :)

I used this book in our homeschool to teach my kids some manners. We did skip over some parts that just aren’t super applicable to their life. But we really enjoyed learning about various greeting styles around the world. They really seemed to pick up some better manners along the way, learning when and how to properly hold open a door and how to properly mingle at a social event. I know a handful of kids was likely not the target audience the authors had in mind, but it worked perfectly for us.

Very helpful but doesn’t get into why things are done and why many people don’t follow manners. Ignorance is part of the problem, but not everyone has time to read this kind of book so how are people supposed to learn these things. Who decides what these practices are? The book is simple and easy to read, like a rule book, but I wish it would get more into why manners are practiced so inconsistently in our society and how unequal socio-economic conditions make it hard for everyone to be on the same page about what is polite and what’s not.

As an etiquette professional, I have purchased this book many times over for my students that are in high school, entering college, or new to the work force! Exceptional read!

The only reason I gave this book 4 stars is because I bought it on the kindle and didn't realize how short it is :( I felt there was so much more to learn and the fun style of this book kept me wanting more. I felt like these were useful tips everyone should practice. Coming from a generation that lacks manners and is intitled I think it's important to read this and realize how we convey ourselves and treat others really reflects in our success and daily life. Quick read and I highly recommend.

I like the modern culture updates that were included in the information about manners. It is a quick read, but packed with valuable information. I an an executive business person who travels internationally. I have had formal etiquette training, but find it a good practice to review from time to time. I bought the book for a niece attending college. I though I would just skim through it before presenting it as a gift, read it cover to cover and now I plan to order another one to keep for myself.

As an SDA Christian, I like for religious books to be true to the Bible. I sometimes get disappointed with these baby Bible books because they emphasize man's accomplishments so much instead of God's providence and power. Anyways, I am a very picky person when it comes to religious material for my children, and I could not find one thing wrong with this book. I feel like I have finally found my baby shower gift if I want to give a "Bible."On another note, my baby is almost 26 months old and is learning to read already. So many baby books have too many lines on each page with small print because they are meant for the adult to only read. This one only has 4 lines of text for every open 2-page spread, and each line might have 5 words maximum. The text is large print. The words are simple. My baby and I underline words with our finger as we read them. Though he is still working on 4-line text, he is making an effort to underline in this book and I know he will be able to do it soon. So it is very appropriate for teaching reading or if you are fostering early reading like I am.As an ethnic minority, I always wish there were more options with drawings that at least look like people from the middle east, instead of all Caucasians like in this book. But I am just happy that I found a baby Bible that was true to scripture with large simple print and few lines.I highly recommend this Bible.PS This is not a board book, so unless your child knows how to treat book pages carefully, you may not want to let them handle this one.

My oldest son loved this book. Reading it to him as a baby always calmed him and he payed close attention. Later he loved me reading it to him everynight. We got so we almost had it memorized. My youngest son was slower learning to like books (he has Down Syndrome). This was one of the first books that he would listen to and not immediately want to close the book. This book has wonderful rhyme and rhythm while staying much truer to the bible than most children's bible books. The only problem is it's rhyme is so rememberable that it messes me up a little on the true wording of bible verses. I always like David saying "You come to me with a spear and a sword, but I come to you in the name of the Lord!". Take that Satan.

... Except the NIV or NASB. =)But for kids, this Bible is amazing. The rhymes are well written, the pictures are beautiful, and my kids absolutely love it.We got this Bible after reading the Toddler version of this book first, and were curious what else there was since our kids had memorized the younger version.We weren't disappointed. This version is much bigger and more sophisticated (but still within their reach/understanding), and it really goes the distance. The stories are longer and richer, with more detail. I would say this Bible is great for anyone between the ages of 2.5 to 5.We'll be buying many more as gifts for friends.

My daughter loves this book. I've read it to her since she was 2 months old and she's almost two now. If she has her choice to choose a book to read, she always picks the Rhyming toddler Bible first. She will sit through the whole book and even want it read again when we're done. I really like that her favorite book is based on the Bible and is a fairly accurate interpretation. I'm excited to try the older kids version of this book as well, The rhyming Storybook Bible, I think it's called, I've heard it's excellent as well. I would recommend this book to everyone with at baby or young toddler.

This is my go-to baby gift - excellent first Bible for parents or grandparents to read to children. The kids will love the rhyming, plus the gorgeous water color illustrations that go with every story. Heck, I love the water color illustrations! Just a beautiful edition and retelling of the major stories in the OT & NT.

My 2-year-old loves having her very own Bible and reads stories from the book every night. The rhymes are simple, yet thoughtful and humorous at times, and the sing-song cadence allows toddlers to quickly memorize the stories. My daughter's favorite story is about "Noah's boat," as she says, and after a few weeks was able to recite the story herself. We even bought her a toy ark to reinforce the story. She has now memorized several of her favorite stories.It's been such a joy to see her, at an early age, enjoy reading about God, Jesus, and the lives of His followers.

I was deciding between the toddler version of the Rhyme Bible and the regular version. I chose this one because of the smaller size and I'm glad I did. It's easy to lay in bed with my son, hold it above us and read. My nephew has the other version which is much bigger and much heavier.The storybook is pretty good. Considering the need to rhyme, the author did a good job with the various Bible stories. My 2 year old son enjoys the book and asks for certain stories each night.My only criticism is actually with the artist. The drawings are inconsistent. I think the artist had a hard time with drawing the same person from different perspectives (front, side profile, at a distance). The characters (Ruth for example) looks like a different person on each page. I also don't like how Jesus is pictured--in a white church choir robe, mostly with his arms stretched out to his sides as though he just stood like that all the time.Considering it's for toddlers, I'd still recommend the book.
