I'm reading this as a textbook for college, and it's easily my favorite book i've been assigned in a few years. The language is very easy to understand, and I'm learning so much about evaluation. The reading is very easy without being too fluffy, and it has a great balance between presenting theory and very actionable steps. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in learning about evaluation.

I had to get this book for a class. The only time I actually used it was when I was forced to reference it in a discussion once or twice. There are books that cover the same material clearly and more thoroughly than this- it is a pain to read and understand the simple concepts covered due to the poor composition of this text.

I took Hallie Preskill's class on Evaluation and she was excellent. This is an excellent book.

For those interested in program evaluations this is a must have.

This book was originally a requirement for my course, but as I used it, I found it was well organized and very helpful for program evaluation.

This book is the text for a required course. I find myself reading it and referring to it more often than textbooks for other classes. Easy reading and, to my surprise, it holds my interest.

About the Author

Patricia M. Cunningham The day I entered first grade, I decided I wanted to teach first grade. In 1965, I graduated from the University of Rhode Island and began my teaching career teaching first grade in Key West, Florida. For the next several years, I taught a variety of grades and worked as a curriculum coordinator and special reading teacher in Florida and Indiana. From the very beginning, I worried about children who struggled learning to read and devised a variety of alternative strategies to teach them to read. In 1974, I received my Ph. D. in Reading Education from the University of Georgia. I developed the Making Words activity while working with Title One teachers in North Carolina where I was the Director of Reading for Alamance County Schools. I have been the Director of Elementary Education at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina since 1980 and have worked with numerous teachers to develop hands-on engaging ways to teach phonics and spelling. In 1991, I published Phonics they Use: Words for Reading and Writing, which is currently available in its fourth edition. Along with Richard Allington, I published Classrooms that Work and Schools that Work. Dottie Hall and I have worked together on many projects. In 1989, we began developing the Four Blocks Framework, a comprehensive approach to literacy which is used in many schools in the United States and Canada. Dottie Hall and I have worked together to produce many books, including the first Making Words books and the Month by Month Phonics Books. These Making Words by Grade Level books are in response to requests by teachers across the years to have making words lessons with a scope and sequence tailored to their grade level. We hope you and your students will enjoy these making words lessons and we would love to hear your comments and suggestions. Dorothy P. Hall I always wanted to teach young children too! After graduating from Worcester State College in Massachusetts I taught first and second grade. After two years, I moved to North Carolina where I continued teaching in the primary grades. Many children I worked with struggled to learn to read in the newly integrated schools. I wanted to learn more and received my M ED and Ed D in Reading from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I also worked at Wake Forest University where I met and began to work with Pat Cunningham. After three years teaching at the college level I returned to the public schools and taught third and fourth grade as well being a reading and curriculum coordinator for my school district. At this time Pat Cunningham and I began to collaborate on a number of projects. In 1989, we developed the Four Blocks Framework, a comprehensive approach to literacy in grades one, two, and three which we later expanded to kindergarten, calling it Building Blocks, and the upper grades, calling it Big Blocks. By 1999 Pat and I had written four Making Words books, a series of Month by Month Phonics Books, and The Teacher’s Guided to Four Blocks and I retired from the school system to devote more time to consulting and writing. I also went back to work at Wake Forest University where I taught courses in Reading, Children’s Literature, and Language Arts Instruction for elementary education students. I am now Director of the Four Blocks Center at Wake Forest University and enjoy working with teachers and administrators around the country presenting workshops on Four Blocks, Building Blocks, Guided Reading Strategies, and Phonics Instruction. I have also written several books with teachers. I like the lessons and the idea of this product. However, I find myself using other letters. The ones they provide in the back aren't perfectly aligned and when you copy them your copies also aren't perfectly aligned, making each letter a different size when you cut them. Also, the letters that come with this neglect to use the top and bottom lines for a capital I making it look exactly like a lowercase l just like when I typed this sentence. Using other letters gives the children a different feel and keeps them engaged. If you have a classroom full of children to use this with I wish you the best of luck in getting enough paper letters of all the same size to use with the lessons. I also recommend having enough letters for each lesson already prepared ahead of time. Some children take a long time to find all the letters necessary to begin the lesson.

Making Words has been a great addition to my guided reading lessons and a terrific guide for my student teacher as she began to work with small groups. Lessons are systematic, scripted, and engaging for students.The interactive nature of making and adjusting words enables students to work with words and sounds in a powerful way. My students have started to naturally chunk words as they read and write.I bought the kindergarten version as well, because the 1st grade book started with words like "stand." If you have students that need work with CVC words the kindergarten book is a better option.

I had several below grade level students in my class last year. I used this book and strategy and saw tremendous improvement. One student went from barely spelling his name to at grade level by the end of the year. I enjoy teaching with any hands on material that I can get, so this was terrific. The only thing that would have made it better would be if it came laminated and pre-cut (but I can dream). I pre-sorted the letters I needed for the week's lesson into small pockets, and during centers I would pull students back to my table and give them thier pocket envelope. I loved it. Fun to teach and fun for them.

You can't go wrong with kids making words. This is a piece that helps kids physically move the letters and sounds. The teacher sometimes needs to help the students see the connections but that's why you need a teacher. If you do the complete lesson, they do write and read the words. It's multi-level and addresses different learning styles/modes.

I've loved Making Works for years. I do Daily Five work my second grade class. Nearly all the kids prefer the"words" center, where I write out the clues/steps for the Making Words lessons. They love finding the mystery word each day!

Great book! Came in handy for my Foundations of Reading Class.

I really enjoy Marie's blog and look forward to each new post. She has a real talent and I'm happy she's chosen to share it with us. I must say however that I think someone along the line (publisher?) has done her a great disservice when it come to the Kindle edition of this book.Many of the fractional measurements seem to be images rather than actual text. They are very tiny & fuzzy (yes, even when I make the font size larger because it's an image, not text). This has rendered much of the book useless to me as I just cannot read the tiny, fuzzy pictures that describe the fractional amounts. (Example posted with review)Consequently I'm unable to review this book based on its make-up formulas, as I really cannot read the amounts and therefore not able to make any of the products ðŸ˜žI think the best solution is they should republish using the correct format and provide it free of charge to those of us that have already purchased it.

Let me just say how excited I am to leave this review. I have followed Marie on her blog for quite some time, and I just adore her passion for diy cosmetics, skin care, and soap. She is witty and clever and her personality is reflected wonderfully in her writing. When this book arrived today, I was giddy with delight as I flipped through all the pages to look at her new recipes. Having made my own makeup for a couple years, I am not a novice but if you are, no worries. There is a plethora of background info on ingredients and techniques so that you can feel very comfortable starting from scratch in developing your own products at home. Marie makes a concerted effort to use as many natural ingredients as possible in her recipes, yet she also develops recipes that are very "professional" and "high end" in nature. In other words, they work! Now that might not seem like a big deal to you, but that's a slippery slope as it's often tricky to not use a bunch of chemicals to achieve long lasting lipstick and mineral makeup. In addition, I can tell she really focused on ingredients that were easy to source. Many of the ingredients you are likely to find locally, but if not, she has an extensive list of stockists and suppliers at the end of the book for customers all over the *world*. Most of the recipes are limited to 10 or less ingredients which also makes these recipes very beginner/budget friendly as who wants to buy 20 different ingredients to make lip balm? Not me! For a more experienced diyer, you can use some of the recipes to tweak or experiment with some of your own recipes. I, myself, have been inspired to play with a couple additional ingredients that I am not currently using. In conclusion, I highly recommend this book at a treat for yourself or a loved one and I can't wait for future books from Marie :)

I was introduced to Marie's work via her blog and had just began making homemade soaps and lotions. As most people, I try to balance products that have ingredients I understand and know aren't bad for you and products that work! I was hesitant to purchase this book and the materials because it's a large initial investment (I spent $50 to get makeup making supplies, but I can make almost everything in the book...I already had many of the oils and such from making soaps and lotion so this was makeup specific supplies). I was worried I would invest and be disappointed with the outcome and have all these weird ingredients.However, makeup making proved to be a success! In about an hour I was able to make a concealer, makeup, and airbrushing powder. I'm in my mid-30s with some large pores and fine lines showing. I found the dry mineral makeup was too dry and settled in my imperfections too much. However add that dry power to the liquid recipe and magic! I loved the coverage. I also found that my face looked great throughout the day. With my store bought makeup I had to reapply every time I was going to go somewhere. I just don't feel this way with this makeup.I also tried both her long-wear and creamy vegan lipstick recipes. Let me say as someone who has always struggled to make lipstick color selections, having the freedom to sit there and tweak my own lipstick color to my liking is a game changer. I used both carmine, brown and red oxides, and a mica for shimmer. In the future I will order ultramarine to allow for some more cool tints. I did feel that the long-wear lipstick was a bit dry: I had to be sure my lips were moisturized before applying for it to work. I loved the creamy recipe...felt like it was doing great things to my lips and providing color!The way that Marie approaches skin care in the book is really nice...she is giving you enough recipes to do a total cleansing, moisturizing, and makeup routine all DIY. I look forward to trying more of these recipes out and possibly being free from the beauty industry...now wouldn't that be amazing ladies?

This is a FABULOUS book! I've searched for books on at-home cosmetic formulation and really found very few and those that I did find looked lacking. Marie's book is a treasure! There are clear directions on formulating and blending colors, different options to choose from if you prefer vegan recipes, and she makes YouTube videos to correspond with things in her book so you can see what she's actually doing. Her website, Humblebee and Me, has oodles more recipes for you to make and valuable information you need for formulating your own cosmetic and personal care products. If you're looking into making your own products, look no further! Marie's book and website are all you need. But be warned....this will become a serious addiction!

I can count in my one hand how many Mafia themed books I love and this bad boy right here is on my top 3 list!Man oh man! I don't know how I'm gonna deal with myself right now. I'm gutted, bleeding, blubbering mess on the floor for these characters. I can't breathe with the pain, sorrow and helplessness they feel for their doomed love for each other. My heart cried with some notable scenes in this book because of the feels! I tried so hard not to, but Pietro took ahold of my heart. And Ciro...*sighs* I may be in the minority here, but I want him redeemed. Surely, there is more to him than what was let on the story.The book got the modern day Romeo and Juliet with their star crossed lovers thing going on but with a lot of twist that makes this an amazingly interesting read. This story has a chock full of angst, darkness and steeped in blood befitting the Mafia theme. Hand over heart, I pray that the next book will be released soon.

Itâ€™s not ever going to get better than this book, right here.â€™ And then you release another book and itâ€™s even better than that last one. How?Rotten Girl is my new favorite. Selene and her boys donâ€™t deserve the life theyâ€™ve been born into. They deserve so much better. This story made me laugh, it made me anxious, it made me cry. With so many twists and turns, I never saw most of what happened coming. Couldnâ€™t clearly see who was good and who was truly rotten right up until the last few pages. I canâ€™t wait to see what happens next.

I knew within the first few sentences that I wouldn't be able to put this book down, and it was true. I literally fell asleep with phone in hand.This story is beautiful, heartaching and brutal in the best of ways. A definite story to be put in the re-read pile.

This book is EVERYTHING! I can't even remember the last time a book made my cry so much. The author builds the characters in such a way that you can't help but get attached. Their pain becomes your pain. This is a must read and reread book! Download it now!

Ok read, not sure why but I couldn't really get into this one. I felt annoyed with the guys most of the time because I felt this poor girl just needed a break and them being men and out and about and living life was kind of wrong since she was trapped in a nightmare. For the love they feel for her they sure had a funny way of showing it sometimes. I also found myself half way through deciding to start skipping through here and there. With all of that it was still ok, pietros death bothered me so much, even though we are supposed to be mad at him for not being loyal to Vincent in a sense, he was just so sweet, and the way he went out just tore me up. The point that he really tried with her, and promised so much struck me to want him to win her heart, Maybe why that's why I didn't care for this book as much as I wanted, because some of the other men seemed more amazing? I even liked ciro, who in the end only turned out to be a complete psycho.

*WARNING* contains explicit situations and violence.Selene was born into a mafia family. The best part of her life was a living mother and her 3 best friends, Vince, Dom, and Geo. Selene grew knowing her life would be planned for her, and with her abusive father, she would have no choice at all.This is a story of the lives of these four kids growing up. We get a glimpse at certain events at different years for each person. We see the difference between the 3 boys and Selene. It tells the story of the lives and devotion between these four even during all the violence. I like that it was the girl who made the biggest sacrifice in this story.

This book was everything I hoped for plus a gallon of mafia charm and devilry. Selena is quite literally the glue that holds the next generation of Syndicate leadership together - and the funny part is that they all know it. Oh, the â€œadultsâ€ (read: people in charge) think the mismatched quartet are just friends as they grew up together, but the four of them know the truth - they will always belong together. They donâ€™t question it... none of them, they just know. Now they just need to figure out a way to make it work because the powers that be will never condone such a grouping, and the harsh realities of the outfit deny any of the youth a choice.Which brings me to the next point... freedom and choice. None of them have it. Not the youth nor the made men and leaders. They are all owned by the syndicate in one way or another, their fates already written in the stone proclamations of their births. Ivy Fox does a remarkable job of detailing and expressing such feelings, drawing the stark loneliness in vivid shades is grey.Pros:- exceptionally well written- Nice editing- Emotion pushes this story, not action- acceptance is not defeat....- Character growthCons:- Cliffhanger ending- a bit flowery in some dialogue

This is one of 2019's must reads! I have followed the author Ivy Fox from her first book, this is her fourth book and her stories just keep getting better.This is a Mafia reverse harem and centres around Selene and her boys, the enigmatic Vincent, the steadfast Dominic and the incredibly loyal Giovanni (he is my favourite, don't tell the others). The story of their lives and the obstacles they need to overcome to be together , is riveting, heartbreaking and will conclude in the second book.If you have never read a RH (reverse harem) book, this is a very good one to start with, if you have then this will be right on the mark. Just make sure you have tissues, this story will make you cry, want to hit something (or someone.... no names mentioned... it would give too much away) and swear under your breath when you get to the end and realise you have to now wait for the conclusion.I whole heartedly recommend this book,I was given it as an ARC but state that this is my true and entirely honest view on this incredible read.

Zen priest Shunryu Suzuki-roshi was one of the most influential Zen teachers of his time.
