Good book it if you want to know something about home networking, ancillary features of' Windows 7, and have PCs using Windows 7. Limited value if you're trying to understand networking as the primary goal. Much of the content regards windows 7. Unfortunately, a waste of my money as the description didn't clearly define the book and its contents to help me make the right choice.
This book is geared for the absolute beginner. It will help the beginner greatly in setting up a home network. The book does use Netgear router setup, but you shouldn't have a problem if you have another brand of router. I bought this book just to test the knowledge I had on home networking and to see if I was in need of some info and not for learning since I am experienced in home networking.
The book is focused on Windows 7 and I found it answered a number of questions. If you are very familiar with home networking issues then you don't need these types of books, but there is a reason why they call the series "For Dummies" books. I think it is especially helpful for Windows 7 users.
