This book is perfect for my 3-year-old Star Wars obsessed son. I couldn't say how much an older kid would like this, but it is clearly not intended for bigger kids. My son enjoys the pictures and easy-to-follow "story". He's even started reading some of the words. No, there isn't a plot per se, it mainly is about the droid characters and what they do, in very simple sentences. Absolutely perfect for a little one just learning to read.We've read this book several times and it's a great little bedtime story for a parent. You can breeze through it in a couple of minutes even taking time to study the pictures and help your little one sound out the words. My son likes the whimsical illustrations, which are recognizable enough but not spot-on representations of the characters. The book covers droids all of the movies, including BB-8 from the new one. There are cameos by Luke, Leia, Han and most hilariously, Chewbacca. It's just a fun little book.
My sweet little nephew (nearly 3) loves all of these books. He lives with my Mom and Dad and Dad reads them to him at bedtime and honestly, they BOTH really enjoy these. My nephew just recently started getting into Star Wars... mainly I think he just thinks it's something my Dad and I like, and reacts to our excitement over reading these... nevertheless, he constantly asks to be read to and these are the new favorite.
I purchased the I Am A Droid/Jedi/Pilot books after previously buying the complete Star Wars saga Little Golden Books for my 5 year old for Christmas. The saga books were a big hit with him, and they had nice, somewhat lengthy (for a Golden Book) summarizations of each movie. The "I Am" books, however, seem geared towards a slightly younger audience. Each page has a short sentence or two, and doesn't tell a story. Instead, it offers examples, traits, and what it means to be each thing. That being said, they are still nice little books and would be perfect for younger audiences with limited attention spans. The artwork is adorable, as well.
Nice addition to our Star Wars golden books, we got the star wars box set of golden books since my 2 year old loves Star Wars but some of them are a bit long to hold her attention - this book is just the right length as the captions are really only sentences so we can read the whole book before she gets bored and wants to move onto another one. Can't wait for the I am a Princess book comes out!
The Little Golden Book "Star Wars: I Am a Droid" is a great way to introduce your kids to the Star Wars universe! Despite never seeing the movie, my 3 year old daughter became enamored with BB-8 after the release of "The Force Awakens"; she is now a fan of R2-D2 and C-3PO as well. The fun and colorful retro inspired illustrations by Chris Kennett are the perfect fit!One caveat is that there are a few slightly darker themes running throughout. This may or may not be a concern based on what you are comfortable reading and explaining to your child. Battles, bounty hunters, and droids who "aren't very nice" all make an appearance. Although, if you are familiar with the Star Wars universe, none of these should be much of a surprise.Overall, "Star Wars: I Am a Droid" is a fun introduction to Star Wars filled with excellent illustrations and fairly minimal text.
My little guy loves this book. It's not extremely detailed and drawn out which means that it also isn't very long which is perfect for Mommys and Daddys that want to spend time with their little ones reading at bedtime but also get time to themselves afterwards! Haha.
This is a very cute little book. It explains the purposes of all of the droids in the Star Wars galaxy. It touches on opposites, which is a point my preschooler is studying right now. My son is overly into Star Wars, mostly the droids, so I was really excited to get this for him. He was glad to see that BB-8 was included. I would recommend this to a preschool or kindergarten age Star Wars fan.
